Is CapCut available for Mac, and where do you download it?
Short answer
Yes, CapCut runs on Mac. CapCut's own pages give two routes: the desktop download on capcut.com and a Mac App Store listing shared with iPhone and iPad. It is free to start, but CapCut's help page says membership features on a computer need Pro. Its pages disagree on the macOS minimum (10.14 or 10.15) and none mention Apple Silicon. We read these pages on October 20, 2026 and did not install the app.
CapCut offers the Mac editor from two places. The desktop page on capcut.com has a “Download for free” button, and CapCut's Mac download article tells you to get the app from “the official website or Mac App Store”. The App Store entry is named CapCut: Photo & Video Editor, sold by BYTEDANCE PTE. LTD., and it is one listing shared with iPhone and iPad.
CapCut does not say whether the Mac install from that listing is a separate Mac build or the iPad app running on an Apple Silicon Mac. One review site infers a Mac-specific build because the Mac entry has its own macOS requirement, but that is the site's inference, not CapCut's statement. Other sites that host CapCut downloads are mirrors, not CapCut. Use the two routes above and skip the mirrors, because you cannot tell what a third party has repackaged. If you are weighing a switch rather than an install, the CapCut alternative for Mac and Windows page covers that, and this page sticks to installing and using CapCut itself.
On a Mac, other people's experience is mixed. One user in a January 2026 thread on Reddit wrote, “CapCut is fine, but on Mac it can feel a bit clunky once you're doing this daily.” That is one opinion from one thread, not a measurement. The same thread had another comment about ads: “Capcut recently got a lot of ADs, hence now I suggest ‘VN’ based on few suggestions people gave me.” Again, one commenter, and we did not check how ads appear in the Mac app.
Before you install, three practical points follow from what CapCut publishes. Check your macOS version against the table below. Decide whether you will rely on features that sit behind Pro, since that is where the cost appears. And remember the App Store route and the website route are both CapCut, so the choice between them is about how you want updates and billing handled, which CapCut does not describe in the pages we read.
What are the CapCut Mac system requirements?
CapCut's own pages do not agree. The Mac download article asks for macOS 10.15 or later. The desktop page says “macOS 10.14 or above”, and the App Store listing says macOS 10.14 or later. We show each figure as published and do not resolve it. If you are on 10.15 or newer you satisfy all three.

We searched the desktop page and the download article for Apple Silicon, M-series chips and Rosetta and found no mention on either. Third-party guides say CapCut runs on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs, but CapCut does not publish whether the Mac app is native to Apple Silicon, so we do not state it. The article's date is also unclear: one report dates it August 20, 2026 and a search snippet showed January 2026.
Is CapCut free on Mac?
You can download it and start for free, but CapCut's help page is direct about computers. On its page about Standard subscription devices (dated April 8, 2026), CapCut says:
“Accessing membership features on PC requires a Pro subscription.”
The same page describes Standard as primarily designed for app (mobile) use. In practice that means the free tier is positioned around the phone app, and the computer editor is where CapCut points people to Pro. It says “PC” and does not mention Mac separately, so we cannot say CapCut means Mac too. Its Standard vs Pro article (September 23, 2026) says an advanced AI tool set including motion tracking and an auto caption generator is exclusive to Pro, and also lists the background remover and noise reduction as Pro AI tools.

We left out the free export limit. CapCut's article says both plans can save in 8K, while a third-party summary of its help content says 4K at 60 fps, and we could not settle it. For how the paywall changed over time, see the CapCut pricing and paywall log. If auto captions are the feature you need, the CapCut captions alternative guide looks at other ways to get them.
How much is CapCut Pro on a MacBook?
As CapCut's Standard vs Pro article of September 23, 2026 states it, Pro is $19.99 per month or $179.99 per year, and prices vary by region, platform, taxes and promotions. The Mac App Store listing prints its own in-app purchase list, which we read on October 20, 2026 in USD:
Standard Monthly Subscription
- Price
- $9.99
Pro Monthly Subscription
- Price
- $19.99
Monthly Subscription
- Price
- $19.99 and $7.99
Yearly Subscription
- Price
- $89.99
| Line as printed | Price |
|---|---|
| Standard Monthly Subscription | $9.99 |
| Pro Monthly Subscription | $19.99 |
| Monthly Subscription | $19.99 and $7.99 |
| Yearly Subscription | $89.99 |
That list proves these price points exist on the listing. It does not tell you which one a given Mac user sees, because the listing is shared with iPhone and the lines are not labelled by device. CapCut's help center says there is no lifetime purchase option. The history of these numbers lives in the pricing log, so we do not repeat it here.
What does CapCut's privacy policy say about your videos?
We summarise the CapCut Privacy Policy (last updated 15 April 2026) in our own words and do not quote it, because we read it through a summary rather than line by line. Read the page itself before relying on any point.
- User content includes the photos, images, audio and videos you upload, and it can be collected at import or upload even if you never save or publish it.
- CapCut says it does not use face or body information to identify you in your content.
- It collects device data automatically, including IP address, device and advertising identifiers, device model, operating system and battery information.
- It says some functions access your clipboard, and that it uses advertising and measurement partners.
- It says data is stored on servers in Malaysia, Singapore and the United States.
The App Store privacy label, marked “not verified by Apple”, lists identifiers under data used to track you, and photos or videos, audio and usage data among data linked to you. This is what the documents say, not a claim about intent. If your footage must stay on your computer, that is a reason to compare editors that run locally.
Is iMovie or CapCut better on Mac?
For simple projects, iMovie is the lower-friction pick. Its App Store listing shows it as free and Mac only, with no tiers. CapCut is cross-platform and free to start, with a Pro tier. We have not run either, so this is a comparison of published facts only.

Another commenter in the same Reddit thread put it this way: “Davinci is solid for Mac, but it has a steep learning curve. iMovie works for very basic stuff.” That matches the published facts: iMovie lists a modest feature set and no AI tools. Choose iMovie for basic family or school movies. Choose CapCut if you need captions and projects across phone and Mac, and accept the Pro cost.
What are the Mac alternatives?
Short list only; the costs and the full comparison are on the CapCut alternative for Mac and Windows page.
- iMovie: free and simple, as above.
- DaVinci Resolve: a free full editor with a steep learning curve.
- Final Cut Pro: Apple's paid editor for Mac.
- Rushilo: a one-time purchase editor for Mac and Windows.
If you outgrow CapCut on a Mac, CapCut vs DaVinci Resolve compares it with the free desktop editor most people try next. For the question of whether CapCut can still be used in the US, see is CapCut banned.
How we checked, and what we did not test
We read every CapCut and Apple page named here on October 20, 2026, except the lifetime help page, last read October 14, 2026. We did not install CapCut on a Mac, so we say nothing about speed, exports or watermarks from hands-on use. Unresolved: the macOS minimum, whether the app is native to Apple Silicon, whether the App Store build is Mac specific, which App Store price line a Mac user sees, whether “PC” in CapCut's wording includes Mac, and the free export limit. Prices and requirements change, so check the linked pages before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
Is CapCut available for Mac?
Yes. CapCut offers a desktop editor for Mac at capcut.com, under "Download for free", and a Mac App Store listing named "CapCut: Photo & Video Editor" that is shared with iPhone and iPad. Both are CapCut's own routes. Mirror download sites are not run by CapCut, so avoid them. Checked October 20, 2026.
What are the CapCut Mac system requirements?
CapCut's Mac download article says macOS 10.15 or later, a dual-core processor, 4 GB of RAM (8 GB or more recommended) and 2 GB of free disk space. Its desktop page and the App Store listing say macOS 10.14 or later. CapCut does not say whether the app is native to Apple Silicon. Checked October 20, 2026.
Is CapCut free to use on Mac?
You can download and start for free. CapCut's help page says membership features on a computer require a Pro subscription, and its Standard vs Pro article lists auto captions, background remover, motion tracking and noise reduction as Pro tools. Free cloud storage ended in August 2024. Watermark rules are not stated on those pages. Checked October 20, 2026.
How much is CapCut Pro on a MacBook?
CapCut's own article of September 23, 2026 lists Pro at $19.99 per month or $179.99 per year and says prices vary by region and platform. The Mac App Store listing shows a Pro Monthly Subscription at $19.99 and a $89.99 yearly line. CapCut's help center says there is no lifetime option. Checked October 20, 2026.
Is iMovie or CapCut better on Mac?
iMovie is free and, per its App Store listing, Mac only, with no tiers. Its page lists 4K import, green screen and sending to Final Cut Pro. CapCut is cross-platform and lists auto captions, but those are Pro tools. For simple family or school videos, iMovie is enough. We did not benchmark either.
What does CapCut's privacy policy say about my videos?
CapCut's policy, last updated 15 April 2026, says user content includes the photos, audio and videos you upload, and that it can be collected even if you never save or publish it. It also lists device and advertising identifiers, and says servers are in Malaysia, Singapore and the United States.
Does CapCut have a lifetime plan on Mac?
No. CapCut's help center says it does not currently offer a lifetime purchase option, only monthly and yearly plans (page dated April 3, 2026). Buy-once editors for Mac include DaVinci Resolve Studio and Rushilo, and the CapCut alternative page compares them with costs.
What is the best CapCut alternative on Mac?
For a free Mac editor, DaVinci Resolve is the strongest and iMovie is the simplest. Rushilo, from $19 once for one computer, suits people who want their own Claude Code or Codex to drive a Mac editor. It has no mobile app and no template library, so stay on CapCut if you rely on those.
