YouTube export settings calculator: SDR uploads
Choose the resolution and the frame rate your source was recorded at. The calculator returns YouTube's SDR upload bitrate guidance and a size estimate; YouTube will still process the uploaded file.

How to use it
- 01
Use your source frame rate
Choose 24/25/30 or 48/50/60 fps as recorded. Do not raise a lower-rate source solely to select a larger bitrate.
- 02
Choose the output size
Select a supported SDR resolution. 2160p has a recommended range rather than a single bitrate.
- 03
Export and review
Use the encoding guidance as a starting point, inspect fine text locally, then check the processed upload.
A worked example
For SDR 1080p at 60 fps, YouTube lists 12 Mbps video. With its 384 kbps stereo-audio recommendation, a 120-second payload is approximately 185.76 MB before container overhead.
What to check
- This tool covers SDR uploads from 360p to 2160p. HDR and 8K have separate requirements and are outside this calculator.
- The bitrate guidance is for uploads, not the bitrate viewers receive. A recommendation is not a guaranteed quality or file size.
- Source guidance was checked October 14, 2026. Review the linked official page for changes.
Questions
Should I convert 30 fps footage to 60 fps?
YouTube recommends uploading at the frame rate of the recording. Changing the number does not create genuinely captured motion detail.
Will these settings make the upload instantly available in HD?
No. Higher-quality versions can take time to process. Check the local file and wait for the desired playback quality before diagnosing the upload.
