Free silence detector: review pauses locally
Choose a short audio/video file, set the low-level threshold, minimum silence and padding, then review the candidate ranges. The detector measures audio level; it does not recognize words or meaningful pauses.
No account required. File and text processing stays in your browser.

How to use it
- 01
Open an excerpt
Choose a browser-decodable file up to 64 MB and 5 minutes. The first decoded audio stream is analyzed locally.
- 02
Adjust the cut
Start with the sample settings, then listen. Lower the threshold to protect quiet speech and increase padding to protect word boundaries.
- 03
Review and export
Download CSV ranges or a trimmed 16-bit WAV. A video FFmpeg command is available for up to 100 keep ranges; it requires a video and audio track.
A worked example
For a one-second internal pause with 150 ms of padding at each side, the proposed removal is 700 ms. Leading and trailing silence need padding only beside retained sound.
What to check
- Uses 10 ms RMS windows and requires all channels to be below the threshold. Its boundary times and method can differ from FFmpeg's silencedetect filter.
- Quiet speech, room tone, music and intentional pauses need human review. A level detector is not a speech recognizer.
- The browser downloads audio only. Video removal happens only if you run the generated command yourself. Unsupported codecs and surround audio are rejected.
Questions
Does this cut my original file?
No. The original stays on your device. You can download a new trimmed WAV or a range list, or choose to run the generated video command.
Can I analyze a long podcast?
This browser tool is limited to five-minute excerpts to bound memory use. Use a desktop editor or the FFmpeg detector recipe for longer recordings.
